A Breath to Refresh

To connect physically is a discipline, but it always has a high return of replenishing our hearts and minds. Like most people, I am often tempted to stay comfortable in bed instead of waking up early for a run, or enjoy some lounging on the couch instead of getting in a bike ride, but without fail, every time I opt for that breath of fresh air, I'm glad I did. Relaxing and replenishing is every bit as important as your workouts but make sure that you actually did something to earn it. Otherwise, it's just laziness!

7 tips to make it happen:

1. Get the gear. Invest in the equipment and clothing needed to do your activity comfortably and feeling good.
2. Set out your clothes and shoes (or packed bag) the night before.
3. Tell your spouse or a friend your plan. Chances are they will ask you how it went later.
4. Hydrate the night before with water and/or herbal tea for a morning workout. Or the 2 hours before for an afternoon/evening workout.
5. Stand up and do a few stretches. The blood flow to your muscle tissue and your brain will make you want more.
6. Listen to your favorite 'pump it up' song and visualize yourself doing something awesome! Then go do it!
7. Cut out the sugar and soda (this includes diet soda). The crash after a sugar high leaves you feeling tired and drained. Diet soda contains aspartame which has the same effect.
